Contract: State-Based Organizing & Leadership Development

Who We Are

SAVE-US is a new organization dedicated to creating strong regulations on autonomous vehicles. Our team is made up of grassroots activists, road safety advocates, political organizers, and autonomous vehicle experts.

The Problem and Our Solution

Fully self-driving cars are already here. State and federal regulations have focused on helping the technology advance, not addressing the safety issues that come with computer-controlled vehicles operating at high speeds and in complex urban environments.

Today, many car companies use advanced driver assistance systems (e.g. Tesla Autopilot) with minimal legal oversight or regulation. Companies such as Tesla take advantage of this situation to sell dangerous products using misleading advertising. When people get hurt, the companies escape legal liability. There have been dozens of reported deaths involving these systems, yet regulators have yet to meaningfully act.

Meanwhile, fully automated vehicles (robotaxis) are being tested in more and more cities, with minimal state and municipal regulations. These vehicles threaten to take jobs from human taxi drivers, clog the roads with zero-occupancy vehicles, and potentially cause fatal accidents.

Our campaign will push states to pass smart regulations on automated vehicles to immediately make our roads safer and contribute toward larger nationwide movements dedicated to making companies prioritize people over profit.

The Role

This is an independent contractor position tasked with growing the network of SAVE-US activists, supporters, and advocates. Core work includes:

• Cultivating relationships with ally organizations and creating a partnership process;
• Building relationships with people directly impacted by unsafe autonomous vehicles and facilitating public speaking and earned media engagements;
• Creating pathways for public engagement including organizing rallies and advocacy in state legislatures;
• Developing a framework for leadership development and deeper engagement for activists and volunteers.

Our goal is to successfully pass pathbreaking legislation in each target state in 2026, driven in large part through our grassroots advocacy effort.

Experience

• Minimum of 2 years experience in community, political, or labor organizing;
• Management experience (including of volunteer teams);
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
• Exceptional people skills and enthusiasm;
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, etc.;
• A strong commitment to our shared values.

Compensation

This is an independent contractor position, with an initial six month contract and a possibility to extend. Compensation is $7,000/mo.
