Overview:

The Florida Gaming Control Commission is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the Lottery, as well as directly enforcing Florida’s gaming laws and combatting illegal gambling activities.

The agency is overseen by five Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor, with Commissioners appointing an Executive Director who leads a team of nearly 200 staff members. The mission of the Florida Gaming Control Commission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement.

The Division of Gaming Enforcement is a criminal justice agency comprised of sworn law enforcement officers and criminal intelligence analysts handling complex cases involving RICO, money laundering, and illegal gambling throughout the state. The Commission offers a supportive work environment that fosters growth and collaboration.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

The Commission’s Division of Gaming Enforcement is searching for a Digital Forensic Engineer for the Tallahassee office. Work involves the collection, analysis, and presentation of data related to criminal activity investigated by agency personnel. The incumbent will support the Division through research and consultation of technology needs, collection and/or extraction of digital evidence, participation in legal process and court proceedings, and support of computer networks and specialized systems utilized by the Division. Specific duties include:

• Researches and recommends for acquisition the necessary hardware and software assets for us in technology-related investigations.
• Maintains, utilizes, and validates hardware and software used in technology-related investigations.
• Researches current and anticipated future technology advances to assess potential impact on the investigation of illegal gambling.
• Uses digital forensic tools to aid in the investigation of online sports betting, illegal casinos, and other illegal gambling activity, to establish connections between criminal activity and persons or organizations.
• Provides additional investigative leads discovered as a result of analysis of digital evidence and provides informal suggestions concerning the investigation based on an in-depth knowledge of the analyzed evidence.
• Participates in interviews conducted by sworn personnel of witnesses and subjects, regarding matters for which a detailed understanding of technology-related issues is necessary.
• Provides analysis of forensically recovered digital evidence for criminal investigations.
• Assists with the search and seizure of technology and digital evidence on crime scenes, search warrants, and during other criminal investigative activities.
• Testifies, when required, before a statewide, state, or federal grand jury or jury trial and during other proceedings, as to information obtained, and/or analyzed and for chain-of-custody evidence.
• Assists with the implementation and maintenance of covert networks for DGE use.
• Provides support relating to specialized law enforcement applications for DGE, to include SmartCop, Milestone, Evidence.com, and others.
• Responsible for technology design and maintenance of the specialized environments, storage, and protection of data, and preparation of information for use by DGE from video, undercover, and forensic environments.
• Travels as required to provide investigative support to DGE.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of the criminal justice system;
• Knowledge of the methods of data collection;
• Comprehensive knowledge of fundamental computer operations, including hardware, software applications, and electronic communications;
• Familiarity with computer, mobile, digital, and cyber forensic tools;
• Working knowledge of Linux, Mac OS, Android OS, iOS, and Windows OS;
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.);
• Sufficient oral communication and personal skills to be able to deal effectively with employees in other government agencies, businesses, and the courts;
• Ability to maintain knowledge of current technology trends and techniques;
• Ability to use writing skills to clearly and factually present complex and interrelated information in investigative reports;
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information; and
• Ability to understand and apply applicable statutes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Two (2) years of professional experience in digital forensics, computer systems management, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer system analysis, computer information systems, or digital forensics.
• Three (3) years of professional experience in digital forensics, computer systems management or maintenance, network engineering, or systems consulting.
• Experience with mobile forensic tools.
• Experience with SmartCop.
• CompTIA certifications

Work Location:

This position is located in Tallahassee, Florida. Travel will be required.
