Certified Pharmacy Technician

FLSA Non-Exempt 
36-40 hours per week 
Eligible for full-time benefits package

Position Summary:

Under the general direction and supervision of the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Director, this position will be an integral member of a patient’s care team at by assisting the pharmacist in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care while working at the top of the technician license capability. Prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist. All activities are performed in accordance with established policies and procedures and are carried out in the highest achievable level of competence in a manner demonstrating concern and consideration.

Position Requirements:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • License: Certified Pharmacy Technician national certification and State of Montana Pharmacy. Technician License is preferred; Tech-in-Training license is accepted; we may willing to train the right person if no certification is held.
  • Experience: Two years prior experience in a retail pharmacy setting serving a diverse patient population is preferred.
  • Other: Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Essential Functions, Roles, and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the pharmacist in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care, communicating information effectively.
  • Prepares prescriptions for dispensing by accurately entering all patient and prescription information into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Troubleshoots third-party rejections, communicating and resolving issues.
  • Accurately fills Rx paying careful attention to specific programs and regulations (ex 340B).
  • Prepares prescription for dispensing by accurately filling Rx vial with correct drug and proper labels.
  • Orders drug inventory and supplies with professional guidance from the Pharmacist, following established procedures for 340B and retail inventory.
  • Maintains and files records of dispensing and receiving (invoices).
  • Performs inventory control and management, including perpetual inventory counts and 340B audits as directed.
  • Removes or recommends removal of slow, unneeded, or outdated drugs from stock; prepares for return or disposal.
  • Provides excellent customer service on the phone or in person, always verifying patient identity.
  • Helps maintain orderly, clean environment in the department, including cleanliness of pharmacy stock and supplies.
  • Maintains an attitude and philosophy consistent with SWMTCHC standards.
  • Performs other duties as needed and directed.

  • Proven understanding of performing confidential work and HIPAA requirements.
  • Knowledge of insurance coverage especially as it relates to pharmacy.

Supervision : This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Immediate Supervisor : Pharmacist and/or Pharmacy Director.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

General office/clinic conditions are pleasant; good, clean working conditions where accidents and hazards are negligible; requires short periods of moderate lifting, pushing or pulling objects up to twenty pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for long periods of time. The employee frequently is required to handle and move objects by using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things; stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, or crawl; speech clarity and recognition. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision and the ability to see colors. Clear diction and acute hearing are necessary for effective communication with the staff and public. This position is based in Dillon, Montana.
